Historic Scotland looks for aspiring stonemasons

A TEAM of apprentices is wanted to carry out preservation work at Edinburgh Castle.

Historic Scotland is looking for 15 stonemasons, two electricians and a joiner to help maintain the castle and the heritage body’s 344 other sites across the country. The apprenticeships will last four years and include spells on
college courses.

David Mitchell, Historic Scotland’s director of conservation, said: “These apprenticeships are quite unique in Scotland and we expect many young people to come forward. They not only offer the successful applicants an opportunity to learn a skilled trade, but they open up many doors for future employment.
