Historic look at hospitals

THE history of the Royal College of Surgeons and the grisly activities of murderers Burke and Hare are among the tales contained in a newly-launched book on the history of Scotland's hospitals.

Building up our Health has been produced by Historic Scotland and is free to download. It shows how the architecture of old hospitals including the ERI and Corstorphine Hospital, adapted in response to medical advances and changing philosophies surrounding health.

The book is at www.historic -scotland.gov.uk/scotlands hospitals.pdf.
