Highland derby train behaviour investigated

BRITISH Transport Police has launched an investigation into the rowdy behaviour of football fans on an Inverness-bound train, following last Friday’s derby clash between Inverness Caley Thistle and Ross County in Dingwall.

The match - the first Highland derby of the season - was called off with the scores at 0-0 after a power cut at Ross County’s Global Energy Stadium.

During the train journey supporters threw cans of alcohol around a rear carriage and stood on seats and tables on the train

A force spokesman said today: “BTP is appealing for information following disorderly behaviour by supporters who travelled by train following the Ross County v Inverness Caledonian Thistle SPFL match last Friday, 25 October

“Between 10.25pm and 11pm the group of around 30 supporters in the rear carriage threw cans of alcohol and also jumped and stood on the seats and tables throughout the journey between Dingwall and Inverness.”

He added: “Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from stations and on the train to assist in the identification of those involved.”

Sergeant Kevin Lawrence, the officer in charge of the investigation, appealed for anyone who was on the train who had information about the incident to come forward.

Sergeant Lawrence said: “Others on the train, who should be able to travel without encountering this sort of behaviour, have said they were disgusted by the actions of their fellow supporters. I would urge anyone who can assist the investigation to contact BTP as a matter of urgency.”
