Hibs striker guilty of coke charge

HIBS star Garry O’Connor has been convicted of possessing cocaine and obstructing police officers who spotted him snorting the powder.

The footballer, whose contract has now expired, was found guilty of attempting to run away after officers saw him taking the drug in the city centre last year. He will be sentenced later this month.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard how O’Connor tried to tell police his name was Johnstone. However, he was rumbled because he spelled the name “J-O-S”. He then pushed shocked Pc Katherine Eager aside and ran away.

But he was stopped by one of her colleagues just 300 metres away and found to have cocaine with a street value of £450.

Defence solicitor advocate Liam O’Donnell asked Sheriff Derek McIntyre to fine his client, who will be sentenced at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on June 29.
