Hero saves fire family

A HERO neighbour rescued a family from their burning flat.

Jason Lovell rushed next door to help the man, woman and baby girl escape after smelling smoke at his flat in Wester Hailes yesterday.

He realised the smoke was coming from next door and banged on the flat to alert Alana Mair. He grabbed her 15-month-old daughter and helped Ms Mair and boyfriend Kevin Cochrane escape.

Ms Mair, 27, said: "We owe Jason our lives. The smoke alarm was going off but we slept right through it."

Mr Lovell added: "I did what anyone would do."
