Hepatitis C records soar

RATES of hepatitis C could be set to break more records in the Lothians.

More than 3000 people are known to have the potentially fatal disease, with the same number estimated to have the condition but not know it.

In the first nine months of this year, 183 in every 100,000 residents tested positive, which will only rise in comparison with other years once the whole-year statistics are released.

Experts said that having a rise was good because it meant fewer cases were going untreated.
