Helicopters' history of near-misses

CHINOOK helicopters have been involved in 17 near-misses since 2000, figures showed yesterday.

The twin-rotor transport helicopters flew so close to other aircraft that pilots felt safety "was or may have been compromised", armed forces minister Nick Harvey said. There have also been three crashes which caused "irreparable damage".
