Helicopter to the rescue as surfer injured

A SURFER was airlifted to hospital after suffering a head injury while surfing at Coldingham Sands beach.

The man, thought to be in his forties, got into difficulty near St Abbs at around 11:30am yesterday.

It is thought he was helped back on to land by a member of the public who had heard his cries for help.

The man was transported to the city's Royal Infirmary by an RAF helicopter from Boulmer.

Five members of the Eyemouth coastguard team attended the scene, as well as paramedics.

A spokesman for Forth Coastguard said: "The man was still conscious when he came ashore. The ambulance service asked for helicopter assistance."
