Helicopter in safety alert

A SUPER Puma helicopter, flying 19 oil workers and two crew back to Aberdeen from a North Sea platform, was at the centre of a safety alert on Thursday, it was revealed yesterday.

Bristow Helicopters yesterday confirmed the EC225 helicopter - the same version of the Super Puma in which 16 men were killed in the disaster on 1 April, 2009 - landed at the heliport after a caution light illuminated in the cockpit. The airport emergency services were placed on standby as a matter of routine.

A spokeswoman for the helicopter company said: "Engineering inspection revealed a minor fault with a sensor, which was quickly rectified."
