Hearts fan yelled abuse at Celtic boss Neil Lennon

A TEENAGE football fan was arrested after shouting abuse at Celtic manager Neil Lennon, a court has heard.

Dylan Chambers, 17, was taken into custody moments after seeing Hearts lose 4-0 to Celtic at Edinburgh’s Tynecastle stadium in November 2012.

The city’s sheriff court was told how police heard the apprentice electrician scream abuse at Lennon.

Chambers berated the former Northern Irish international made his way back to the Celtic team coach following the match.

Officers immediately arrested Chambers and the first offender spent the night in custody.

Today the court heard that when policemen cautioned Chambers that he may have committed an offence under the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act, he replied: “Sorry.”

The story emerged following a hearing at the sheriff court in which Chambers, of Ingliston, Edinburgh, pleaded guilty to committing an offence under the recently passed legislation on November 28 last year.

Mr Chambers made pleaded guilty to making remarks that were likely to cause offence.

Defence solicitor Victoria Good told the court that her client earned £200 per week and was in a position to pay a financial penalty.

Sheriff Noble deferred sentence on Chambers in order for the court to obtain a report about his character.

He will be sentenced on May 16.
