Health chiefs pool laundry resources

THE sharing of laundry facilities between the health board and the four Lothians councils is an example of how public sector organisations can work together, health chiefs have said.

Following a pooling of resources, the facility at St John's Hospital in Livingston currently caters from the community laundry of Edinburgh, West, East and Midlothian local authorities.

It is being held up as an example of how large organisations can save money and time by working together as they ride out the economic crisis.

NHS Lothian's acting director of strategic planning Alex McMahon said: "These services have now been brought together into a single service managed by Edinburgh Community Health Partnership's community continence service on behalf of all councils and CHPs in Lothian. This will maximise efficiency through shared transport and logistics."
