Health chiefs get connected in £4m boost

A MULTI-million-pound investment has been made in NHS Lothian's IT system, which should help it work more closely with other health boards.

The Scottish Government released the 4 million that will enable clinicians to share patient information and bring the various computer systems into line with each other.

The NHS boards in Fife, Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders will also benefit from the cash injection, which mirrors the approach to IT in Glasgow.

NHS Lothian's director of eHealth, Martin Egan, said: "Our aim is to improve the quality of patient care, while reducing costs. The portal is widely supported by clinicians and the prototype proved that it can integrate with the different systems used across the four health boards."
