Health centre funding secured

A NEW health centre for one of Edinburgh’s most deprived areas has taken a step forward.

NHS Lothian has secured a funding model and a builder for the Wester Hailes Healthy Living Centre.

The £12 million complex is a joint project between the health board and the city council.

Health chiefs will be relieved at the crucial progress milestone, especially during a time of financial uncertainty surrounding many capital projects.

NHS Lothian chairman Dr Charles Winstanley said: “We are delighted that the project has taken another step forward. It will offer many wide-ranging benefits to the people of Wester Hailes and the surrounding areas.”

Councillor Paul Edie, Edinburgh’s health leader, added: “It’s great news that the contractors will be starting work on this exciting project soon. Having all these facilities in one location will benefit everyone in the community and the new site will transform a derelict part of the neighbourhood into a thriving arena.”
