Health board in Glasgow £100m richer

THE health board in Glasgow receives an "unfair" £100 million funding advantage over NHS Lothian, it has been claimed.

Health chiefs in Edinburgh are already reeling at being left 58m short of what they need by Holyrood under the much-criticised NHS Resource Allocation Committee formula.

Now, following a parliamentary question by Lothians MSP David McLetchie, it has been revealed that Glasgow gets 40m more than it should because of poverty levels.

That leaves a gulf of 100m between the country's two largest health boards.

Mr McLetchie said: "NHS Lothian is being short-changed by 58m this year with no prospect of this situation changing in the foreseeable future.

"Budgets of other health boards should not be at the expense of patients in Edinburgh and the Lothians."
