Head for the hills to join climbers' club

Munro bagging has quickly become a popular activity for avid hill climbers across Scotland.

The aim is to climb or 'bag' all of the listed Munros in Scotland. A Munro is a mountain with a height above 3,000 ft. They are modest in height compared to other mountains throughout the world but they are known for their treacherous climbing conditions.

During the winter months certain Munros are thought to be among the most difficult ice climbs in Europe.

The highest and most famous Munro is Ben Nevis in Lochaber which at 4,409ft is also the highest mountain in the British Isles.

Other well-known Munros include, Ben Lomond and Cairn Gorm.
