Mrs Fallon's sister, Deborah Weir, said the victims' family believed justice had been done.

She said: "There are no words in the human vocabulary which can describe the evil that stood in the dock today. He is evil personified.

"He has taken the lives of two innocent people in a most brutal and horrific manner. Diane, a loving mother, daughter, sister and aunt, and Holly, a beautiful sister, granddaughter, niece and cousin.

"Their loss has had a huge impact on us as a family. Our lives will never be the same again, there will always be something missing.

Ms Weir added: "We as a family have been satisfied by today's outcome and believe that justice has been done for Diane and Holly, and we can take some comfort in the knowledge that he's going away for a very long time."

Mrs Fallon's daughter, Amy Henney, 19, said: "I'm just happy that it's all over and done with, and hopefully now they can rest in peace and the rest of the family can try and get on.

"It has brought us a lot closer together."

Family members described the mother and daughter as "colourful".

Mrs Fallon's mother, Frances Fallon, said: "I'll never forget them. When you think she was friendly with him and he's done that to them.

"He should never be allowed back out of jail."
