Have a say on design of Tayside museum

AN EXHIBITION will allow the public to have their say on the design of the iconic outpost of the Victoria & Albert Museum in Dundee.

Six of the world's top architects have been short-listed for the prestigious contract to design the landmark building, planned for a promontory on the River Tay.

It was revealed yesterday that the short-listed designs and scale models of the proposed buildings will be unveiled in September at a special exhibition.

The 47 million outpost will be built close to Discovery Point to the south of Craig Harbour and is scheduled to open in 2014, attracting an additional 500,000 visitors a year to the city.

The V&A at Dundee is being delivered by Design Dundee Ltd, a partnership between the Victoria and Albert Museum, Dundee and Abertay universities, Dundee City Council and Scottish Enterprise.

A spokesman for the consortium said: "The exhibition will be held in the Abertay University library in Bell Street from 29 September to 4 November.

"All are welcome to visit the exhibition, and admission is free," he said. "The winning design will be chosen by the jury panel before the close of the exhibition."
