Handouts for Leith projects

THOUSANDS of pounds have been awarded to a range of community projects in Leith.

The second Leith Decides event on Saturday saw £17,660 handed to 21 organisations.

The awards, of varying amounts, were decided by a public vote following presentations and performances by applicants.

Newhaven Rowing Club secured the maximum £1000 award for a smaller boat which will be used by children.

Club volunteer Emma Thomas said: “These types of boats were used all along the Forth to catch oysters so this is a historical link, but it also encourages people to be active and get out on the water.”
