Halloween witness appeal over attempted bike theft

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seen trying to steal a motorcycle from the back garden of a house on Halloween.

Police are appealing for witnesses to an attempted motorcyle theft.

The incident happened around 8pm on Friday, October 31, at an address in Inveresk Village Road, Musselburgh.

The occupant of the house disturbed a man in the rear garden of the property trying to steal the vehicle.

After being discovered the suspect fled, climbing and jumping an 8ft wall at Inveresk Village Road.

It is believed he then crossed the road and made off towards The Grove public footpath/cycleway.

Anyone who can assist officers with their enquiries is asked to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, in his early twenties, around 5ft 4ins tall with a medium build and light-coloured hair. He was wearing a light-coloured hooded top and dark trousers.

Constable Laura Bowie said: “Fortunately the male was unsuccessful in his attempts to steal the motorcycle but we are keen to hear from anyone who can help us trace this individual.

“The area was undoubtedly busy with trick or treaters and guisers and we would ask anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in Inveresk Village Road to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone with any further information in relation to this incident should also get in touch.”
