Gun victim in spitting case

A PROPERTY developer who was shot outside a city gym has appeared in court charged with spitting in a woman's face just hours after being gunned down.

Robert Kelbie appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday where he faced the assault charge.

The 27-year-old was alleged to have spat in Stephanie Dignan's face in Peffermill Road in Craigmillar on Thursday.

Kelbie, of Glasgow Road, Edinburgh, denied the allegation and was released on bail.

He will have to return to court in the new year.

Kelbie was shot in the back in the car park of Bannatyne's Health Club in Newcraighall. He was treated at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after driving himself to hospital.

Detectives believe Kelbie was targeted by a hitman.
