Grilled chicken's 70mph road trip

MEN are known for trying to attract "birds" using flash cars. But one driver got more than he bargained for when a chicken spent an hour attached to the front of his vehicle.

The bird got her head stuck in the grille of the sports car in Ayrshire, and travelled dozens of miles at speeds of up to 70mph.

Her ordeal ended only when the driver pulled up outside a shop in the village of Coylton, Ayrshire and a passer-by pointed out that there was a chicken lodged in his grille.

One shopper said: "I know guys like picking up birds in their cars, but this was ridiculous."

The bird was rescued by shopper Norah Hogg, who said: "It was an incredible sight – I couldn't believe my eyes when this car parked up with a chicken stuck to it.

"It was quite a flashy new black car, so when I saw all these feathers sticking out at the front it seemed a bit odd.

"It looked as if the hen had headbutted the car – her neck was lodged in the grille, her wings were dangling by its sides and her two wee feet were sticking out behind her."

When Ms Hogg asked the driver if he knew the chicken was there, he looked at her in "utter amazement". Ms Hogg took the bird to see a vet .

"Afterwards, she sat on my knee and started clucking away like she was telling me all about her big adventure. She seemed quite unruffled," she said. The bird is being looked after by a local family.
