Green light for incredible bulk facility

STORAGE space for roads materials and bulky household waste is set to be built next to the community recycling facility at Sighthill.

The city council wants to create the facility, which would store items such as fridges and cookers before they are taken away to be recycled, at land in Bankhead Avenue.

It estimates that 300 tonnes a month would be stored at the site, with ten vehicles a day picking up the materials. Council planning officials say that the site is already established as a community recycling facility and the new proposals are effectively an extension.

John Bury, the council's head of planning, said: "The proposals comply with the development plan and the relevant non-statutory guidelines.

"The proposal will not adversely affect the character of the area."

Councillors will make a final decision on whether to grant consent at a meeting tomorrow.
