Green light after solar panel appeal is won

A HOUSING association has won its bid to install solar panels upon the roof of its headquarters.

Link Group wanted to place the photovoltaic system at its offices in New Mart Road, in the Chesser area of the city.

However, the city council rejected that application on the grounds that the building, which dates to the early 1900s, is listed.

The company appealed successfully to the Scottish Government to be allowed to proceed.

Planning reporter Donald Harris said changes to the building’s look would not have a significant impact on the overall appearance of the former livestock market.

“The impact on the special importance of the premises would be small and any damage outbalanced by the policy encouraging the production of energy from renewable sources,” he said.
