Green homes open door to renewables

EIGHT eco-friendly homes in the Capital will open their doors to the public during an open day to let people see how they could switch to renewable energy.

The homes across the city have installed various green technologies, from solar panels or solar water heating to wood-fuel boilers or heat recovery systems.

And as part of the Green Homes Network Open Day on September 29, they have agreed to show visitors how it has saved them cash and cut their carbon footprint.

Mike Thornton, Scottish director of the Energy Saving Trust, said: “We want to encourage as many people as possible in Edinburgh to go through the keyhole and visit a green home in their area to see how renewables technologies can benefit them.

“With wind, sunshine and rain, sometimes all within the space of 24 hours, our weather can be unpredictable – but it can also be a great source of energy for your home.”
