Green energy boost for city

EDINBURGH has been ranked ninth among UK cities for small-scale green energy generation.

The latest Microgeneration Index produced by energy consultancy AEA shows such schemes in the Capital have a total capacity for 110 kilowatts of electricity generation, mostly from photovoltaic panels installed on houses.

The index charts progress made in the first full year of the Feed-in Tariff scheme which was designed to encourage uptake of small-scale renewable electricity generation.

Colin McNaught, AEA's knowledge leader for renewable energy, said the city's performance demonstrated Edinburgh's commitment to the green agenda.

He added: "There is still plenty of opportunity for growth suited to urban areas."
