Grand Theft Auto V ‘fastest to $1bn in sales’

EDINBURGH-developed video game Grand Theft Auto V has become the fastest-selling entertainment product of all time, according to the game’s publishers.

The latest edition of the long-running GTA series has shifted more than £624 million worth of copies for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 since its global launch on Tuesday.

As well as drawing record-breaking sales, the open-world game has received rave reviews from critics who have labelled it “one of the very best video games ever made”.

A statement from Take-Two Interactive Software said: “Grand Theft Auto V, the critically acclaimed latest release from the iconic interactive entertainment series, has achieved worldwide retail sales of more than 1 billion dollars during its first three days on sale, according to company estimates.

“We believe this marks the fastest that any entertainment property, including video games and feature films, has reached this significant milestone.”
