Government to get Olympic pay advice

Scottish Government officials are to meet organisers of the London 2012 Olympics to explore ways of increasing the wages of Scotland's lowest-paid workers.

The move follows a request from Lothians Labour MSP Kezia Dugdale, who urged the government to hold talks with the Olympic Delivery Authority to learn how it successfully ensured more than 80 per cent of people employed by all contractors were paid at or above the London Living Wage.

Legal experts have said writing such a requirement into contracts would flout European law.

Ms Dugdale said she was delighted the government had agreed to her request, but called on it to detail how many workers whose wages it controls directly are not paid the 7.15 living wage.
