Golf painting to raise £30k

A PAINTING from the 19th century showing two boys playing golf on the Old Links of Musselburgh is expected to fetch up to £30,000.

The watercolour, by William Douglas, will go under the hammer in Edinburgh next month.

Bonhams experts said it was more than just an attractive painting, and provided an insight for golf historians who study the use of clubs and courses from the early 1800s.

It also confirms the historic popularity of what is the oldest operational golf course in the world.
