Gold Brothers face charges for 'misleading' customers

TARTAN tycoons the Gold Brothers have been accused of selling Chinese-made cashmere goods with "Made in Scotland" labels on them.

The company, which owns stores throughout Edinburgh, faces a criminal charge for allegedly "misleading" customers.

The charge is disputed by the family firm and relates to garments seized from its Abercrombie Cashmere store on the Royal Mile.

It is alleged the traders "engaged in a commercial practice which was misleading".

Prosecutors believe shelf labelling in the shop stated clothes were of a Scottish origin when they were actually made in China.

None of the three Gold Brothers owners involved in the enterprise appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday, but defence lawyer Stephen Mannifield entered a not guilty plea on the firm's behalf.

The company is run by brothers Malap, Surinder and Galab Singh, along with nephew Dildar.

Sheriff Elizabeth Jarvie ordered for a trial to be set in December, when a representative from the firm must attend.
