Godzik hits back over Castlebrae closure concerns

THE city’s education leader has responded to concerns raised by local MPs and MSPs regarding the
proposed closure of Castlebrae Community High School.

Earlier this week, the controversial plans to close the school were challenged by two senior politicians who drew up “eight red lines” which they said could not be crossed.

Sheila Gilmore MP and Kezia Dugdale MSP said the impact of closing Castlebrae High School would be too damaging to the surrounding community to be allowed to proceed and suggested the plans had not been properly considered.

In response, councillor Paul Godzik said: “The council fully recognises that Castlebrae Community High School is more than a school and serves the whole community. Consultation will look at each and every community service provided in the school and examine how they can be provided elsewhere.

“Our key focus is on the educational opportunities for pupils attending the school; no-one can deny that this could be improved upon and we need to look at how we do that.”
