Godzik gains nomination to fight seat

EDINBURGH councillor Paul Godzik has been selected as the candidate to fight the new Edinburgh Southern seat for Labour at next year's Scottish Parliament elections.

Cllr Godzik, who represents Morningside and is his party's education spokesman, said he was "delighted" to gain the nomination for next May's election.

"As a local councillor I see day in, day out what impact the SNP/ Lib Dem council cuts are having in our local area, particularly to education with our schools being forced to bear the brunt of the cuts.

"I'm already working hard locally with a strong team of MPs, councillors and party members campaigning across the new constituency speaking to people and listening to their concerns."

The equivalent Westminster seat of Edinburgh South was held at the General Election by Labour's Ian Murray.
