Go-ahead for supermarket

SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has won planning permission for a new store on Picardy Place.

Councillors dismissed fears that the area would become "Tescoland" by approving the new store, its third locally.

Council officers have permitted the installation of a new glazed shop front in place of the existing shop front which "has no architectural or historic merit", and indicated that the store complied with the development plan and would be no detriment to the area.
