SAINSbury’s looks set to clear another hurdle in its quest to open a controversial new store in Bruntsfield.

Planning officers have given the green light to the supermarket giant’s application to display adverts at the former Peckham’s delicatessen despite 38 letters of objection.

Local traders have pledged to drive shoppers away until the retail chain shuts the new store.

Sainsbury’s has also submitted an application for signage to the front and side of the landmark B-listed building. The application will still have to be approved by councillors at the next planning meeting on Wednesday.
