Glorious weather set to continue

SCOTLAND saw temperatures hitting 21C yesterday - and it is set to continue for the whole of the Spring Bank Holiday.

Most of the country will bask in long periods of unbroken sunshine right through until Tuesday. Yesterday, the Isle of Skye was among the warmest spots in Britain at 21C (70F)

Today, it's the far west that will continue to see the warmest weather, with forecasters predicting at least 20C in Ayrshire and the west Highlands.

A spokesman for the Met Office in Aberdeen said last night: "I think Skye is on a par today with the fine temperatures seen in north east England and Wales. The Ayrshire coast recorded between 19 and 20C and Glasgow was not far behind at 18C.

"The east coast was hampered by the wind so Aberdeen was only 14C and Edinburgh was 17C. We won't see much change on Sunday and Monday, though misty fog is expected in the north and on the east coast on Monday."

Across Scotland, April proved warmer than normal, with the north east of the country three degrees above the average for the month.

The past month has been the warmest April in central England since records began over 350 years ago.

Provisional data issued by MeteoGroup UK, showed it to be the fourth sunniest April recorded in the UK in the last 100 years. A spokesman said it was also the past century's sixth driest April.
