Glitch banks open early

BANKS opened early today in a bid to help customers hit by a technical fault which saw payments frozen, benefits stopped and access denied.

The Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest and Ulster Bank were affected by the problem, which meant balances were not properly updated overnight, meaning individuals and businesses potentially missed out on salaries and other vital transactions.

RBS apologised for the “unacceptable inconvenience” and promised customers would not be left out of pocket.
