AN anonymous tribute to firefighters who put out a major fire at Glasgow School of Art has been hung on a city centre statue which itself pays homage to the fire brigade.

Firefighters were widely praised for their efforts after managing to prevent the total destruction of the Mackintosh building. Ninety per cent of the building and 70 per cent of its contents were preserved thanks to emergency services.

Glasgow School of Art posted a photo of the “thank you” sign on the Citizen Firefighter statue today. Located on the corner of Hope Street and Junction Street, it was sculpted by GSA graduate Kenny Hunter and unveiled in 2001.
