Glasgow parents are accused of baby neglect

TWO PARENTS accused of neglecting their baby lived in a flat covered in rubbish and dirty nappies, a court heard yesterday.

GP Karen Wedlock and Health visitor Iona Morris were shown photographs of a flat in Glasgow’s Thornliebank area where the young baby lived with his parents.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard the pictures of Ashley McDonald and Marc Morrison’s flat showed used nappies in the hallway and bottles with traces of milk.

McDonald, 20 and Morrison, 21, are on trial accused of willfully neglecting their son, Anton Morrison.

Dr Wedlock said the baby’s carry cot looked as though the nappies had been allowed to overflow and that had caused staining, and said it was mouldy.

Describing the mattress on the cot and cover she said: “It smells really quite strong at the moment, it’s obviously stained with urine, there’s stains at both ends which makes me think the baby has been at both ends also.”

She told the defence she could not tell “definitely” that the liquid on the sheet was urine.

Ms Morris, a health visitor, told the court she would be “very concerned” if a baby slept on the bedding shown to her.

Police said at the time that Anton’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

The trial before sheriff Stuart Reid continues.
