Glasgow link body ditched

A MOVE to effectively scrap a body that brings together Scotland's two biggest cities has been given the go-ahead by councillors.

The Evening News revealed last week that the Glasgow-Edinburgh Collaboration Initiative, which has been running for four years at a cost of more than 150,000 a year, is to be axed.

The two dedicated members of staff employed by the GECI will not have their contracts renewed when they expire at the end of March, and no dedicated annual funding will be provided.

Councillors approved the decision at a meeting of the city council's economic development committee yesterday.

However, Lesley Martin, the council's service manager for strategy and research, insisted that collaborative work between the cities would continue.
