There were prayers and a minute silence at the service organised by the Royal British Legion Scotland and Poppyscotland.

Giant red poppies have been painted on the grass at the side of the M8 motorway between Glasgow and Edinburgh to mark this year’s Scottish Poppy Appeal.

Ground staff from Hampden Park and a team from pitch-painting specialists Linemark UK painted three poppies on the grass pyramids which line the busy motorway at the junction for Bathgate.

Poppyscotland, which supports vulnerable veterans and their families, reported a slight drop in donations last year.
