Glasgow flight hit by fuel leak

Airline officials confirmed last night that a transatlantic flight that arrived in Glasgow from New York had been grounded after a suspected fuel leak.

Continental Airlines flight C016, carrying 158 passengers and a crew of eight, landed on Wednesday morning almost an hour behind schedule.

A fuel leak was discovered in one of the engines, forcing the airline to cancel the return flight. A spokesman for Continental said: "On arrival at Glasgow a fuel leak was discovered. The aircraft has been undergoing maintenance at Glasgow and is expected to be ferried back to Newark (in the US] in the next 24 hours."
