At the High Court in Edinburgh on Friday, judge Lady Stacey also ordered Kerr to be placed on supervision by the authorities for a period of five years after his release from prison.

Passing sentence, Lady Stacey said the only disposal available to her was to impose jail time.

The call centre worker wept as Lady Stacey told him he was going to prison.

She added: “You have pleaded guilty to a number of serious offences. You chose to attack two women who were simply walking home when you chose to attack them within 15 minutes of each other.

“Your actions were very violent and very frightening for the women.”

Kerr, who lived in Clapperton Road, Dundee at the time of the attacks, pleaded guilty to one charge of rape and another charge of sexual assault at an earlier hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.
