Baton carrier Ian Paton, 18, thrust the baton out of the man’s reach and continued to walk the marked route. The man was then pursued down Portland Road before being caught and led away by police.

Thousands had taken part in the parade, welcoming the baton through Kilmarnock, Kilmaurs and Galston.
