She said: “With more than 300 positions still remaining, we continue to welcome applications from those with the passion, drive and enthusiasm who want to help us to deliver a fantastic Games for Glasgow and Scotland.”

The 1,000th recruit was 23-year-old Elayna Currie, from Ayr, who was appointed as an administration co-ordinator.

She described it as a “once in a lifetime opportunity”.

She added: “The excitement is building among staff as we’re getting closer to the start of the Games and I can’t wait for the events to get under way.

The 1,400 staff jobs are in addition to Glasgow 2014’s 30,000 contractor vacancies and 15,000 volunteer positions.
