Girls to help Aids orphans

TWO big-hearted schoolgirls are preparing for a month-long mission to Ghana to help brighten the lives of youngsters orphaned by Aids.

Kirsten Wilson and Catherine Malcolm, both 17 and from North Berwick High School, plan to raise 2000 to fund the trip, in which they will work at an orphanage on the outskirts of the West African country's capital city Accra.

Kirsten said: "I'm pretty excited but I'm quite nervous too.

"But it will be a really good experience and we'll be giving the kids a hand."

She added: "I've never done anything like this before so I'm jumping into the deep end."

The duo hit upon the idea to take a charitable trip last summer and plumped for Ghana because that it was the birthplace of Catherine's mother.
