Girls all set for derby day

MORE than 60 women have signed up for a new club resurrecting the 1970s sports phenomenon – roller derby.

Though it looks harmless, gum shields and knee pads are required as teams on roller-skates battle it out.

Dani Connell, 25, recently formed the Capital's first roller derby club – Auld Reekie Roller Girls.

Ms Connell said: "It can be a rough sport. It's a bit like British Bulldog on skates."

The game involves two teams speeding round a track in the same direction, trying to push past the other team and shove opponents over the circuit boundary.
