Get canny for tasty savings

CHILDREN at Niddrie Mill Primary School learned the value of leftovers at the launch of an initiative to teach people how to be "canny" in the kitchen.

The Kitchen Canny project, run by Newhaven Road-based charity Changeworks, aims to cut down on the 1 billion of food that is wasted in Scotland per annum and save each Scottish household an average of 430 a year.

The initiatives include recipes for slightly-past-its-best food, and advice on the best food to freeze.

Changeworks Kitchen Canny Co-ordinator Anna Derricourt said: "We're seeing a great response from householders."
