Germany: Islamic veil banned for civil servants

Hesse, run by chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats, has become the first German region to ban Islamic face veils for public sector workers.

Interior minister Boris Rhein said it was "not acceptable" to wear a face veil because "public sector workers are obligated to have neutral religious views".
