George Osborne's brother free to resume medicine

The doctor brother of Chancellor George Osborne who wrote a prescription for his prostitute mistress has been told he can resume practising medicine.

Dr Adam Osborne was found by a disciplinary panel earlier this year to have behaved dishonestly in an attempt to obtain anti-psychotic medicine for the cocaine addict.

He also admitted "inappropriate" behaviour in relation to the prescription, as well those written to get an anti-smoking drug for a family member and the contraceptive pill for his then girlfriend.

His six-month suspension imposed in February will be lifted at the end of this month after a General Medical Council review panel yesterday found his fitness to practise is not currently impaired.

They heard he had been on a "personal journey" since that hearing, had "grown up a lot" and had taken successful steps to remediate his misconduct.

The suspension followed incidents which took place between June 2006 and May 2008 while Dr Osborne was a psychiatry trainee at the Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester.

During that time he prescribed the contraceptive pill to partner and anti-smoking drug Zyban to a family member.

He admitted that in both cases he had acted inappropriately.

The charges relating to the escort girl, referred to throughout the hearing as Miss B, stem from an encounter on 12 May, 2008.

It was revealed that Dr Osborne embarked on a relationship with the woman in late 2007 or early 2008.

Dr Osborne said the suspension came as the "biggest shock" and stated he was "terrified", "felt remorseful" and realised how unacceptable and inappropriate his behaviour was.
