Gemma Anderton among five rising stars in running for Orange award

Bond girl Gemma Arterton was "thrilled and honoured" to be one of five actors shortlisted for this year's Bafta rising star award.

The actress, who only graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art three years ago, is up against Andrew Garfield, Tom Hardy, Aaron Johnson and Emma Stone.

Arterton, who starred alongside Daniel Craig in the Quantum Of Solace before taking the title role in Stephen Frears' Tamara Drewe, said: "I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to be one of the shortlisted actors for the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award; 2010 was an incredible year for me and to be recognised in this way by both my peers and the film-going public is amazing.

"I'm in very good company with the other actors who have been nominated, so it is a huge compliment to be considered to win this prestigious award."

Inception star Hardy made headlines when he bulked up to play infamous prisoner Charles Bronson.

Garfield, whose performance in The Social Network won him a Golden Globe nomination, has just started filming in the lead role in the new Spider-Man film. American actress Stone will be also be seen in the film, which is expected to appear in 2012.

Johnson gained critical acclaim for his role as John Lennon in artist Sam Taylor Wood's Nowhere Boy and then hit the front pages when details of the pair's romance were made public.

The winner of the award, now known as the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award, will be announced at the Baftas on 13 February.
