Gay charity praised for its work by MSP

THE work by a Lothians charity to support gay people facing health inequalities has been praised in parliament.

Lothians MSP Dr Ian McKee said the Edinburgh-based Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Centre for Health and Wellbeing deserved recognition.

The former GP said the focus should be on the work done to address mental and physical health issues that could arise from discrimination and isolation.

He said in his motion: "Many people think that LGBT issues are purely about equality. We need to do more to address the health issues of LGBT people.

"There is no other organisation that tackles these issues in Scotland – that's why I think it's crucial that the centre is recognised."
